Last week I attended a field trip of Sydney water's wastewater treatment factory. I was very excited to attend this field trip. During this field trip, I learned the exactly way to treat our daily life wastewater. We visited the Cronulla Wastewater Treatment Plant which is one of the 30 water treatment and recycling plants in Sydney. In Cronulla, we were required to wear full close shoes, helmet, safety glasses and working jacket to keep us safety. After that, the guide who is the employee of Cronulla wastewater treatment plant lead us to go through all the system of wastewater treatment. In Cronulla, there were a lot of giant tanks for water treatment. Basically, each step of wastewater treat was happened in different tank. Following will shows the 7 steps of wastewater treatment which could be divided to 3 board categories.
1, Primary Treatment
Screening
Grift Removal
Sedimentation
2, Secondary Treatment
Bioreactor
Secondary Clarifier
3, Tertiary Treatment
Filtration
Disinfection
It was a very great trip to visit Cronulla Wastewater Treatment Plant and very interesting to understand how the wastewater going after we used and how environmental engineer work to help people to treat environment and save resource of the earth.
